Playability is also referred to as action. If the guitar is hard to play then it will be difficult to learn and will discourage the beginner very quickly. The strings should be easy to press down to the fretboard and the neck should not be too wide or too thick. A beginner should have a guitar that has low action (7/64” from the bottom of the string to the top of the 12th fret). The neck at the nut should not be wider than 1-3/4”. Make sure the music store can set up the guitar for low beginner’s action or avoid the guitar at all costs!
